New Champions of 2001

Champion Gilbri New Edition

(Ch Ashgate Sinclair ex Gilbri Special Edition, 1CC)

New Edition won his third CC  in 2001 after two certificates in 2000.  He becomes the sixth Champion for his kennel, after Ch Tammy of Gilbri (1984), Ch Gilbri Pippins Pride (1986), Ch Gilbri Hazel (1993), Ch Gilbri October Brew (1996) and Ch Gilbri Wayward Lad (1997).  New Edition is the 16th Champion for his sire, Sinclair, the current top sire in the breed.  His dam, Special Edition is a daughter of Ch Hazel by dual CC winner, Int Ch Ashgate Scotch Bard (a son of Ch Ashgate Shuna, who shares the same dam as Sinclair).  Hazel is proving an influential dam for the kennel also producing son, Ch October Brew and daughter, Maid To Measure, dam of Wayward Lad and other winners.


Champion Vallange Sugar And Spice

Like New Edition, Sugar and Spice won her third CC in 2001 after 2CCs in 2000.  She becomes the the 10th Champion for the kennel, all homebred.  She is by reserve CC winner and now European Ch Vallange Highland Lyric at Saredon, litter brother of 1999's and 2000's top Westie bitch, Ch Moonlight and Ch Spirit Of Love.  Private Dancer is a daughter of Ch Ashgate Hielan Laddie and V Vivacious.  Vivacious is littermate to the first Vallange Champions, Viking and Starlight.  Their younger full sister, reserve CC winner, Christmas Cracker is the dam of Highland Lyric.  Their parents are Ch Sinclair and Ashgate Bleaval of Fernforest, a pairing that has produced 4 UK Champions and many overseas title holders.  Bleaval and Hielan Laddie share the same dam, Ashgate Braw Bricht Lass, herself influential through them and two other UK Champion sons, including former top Westie, Ch Ashgate Bern Era (by Sinclair)


Champion Stadelmore Little Miss

The third new Champion of 2001 also won her previous CCs in past years.  Little Miss becomes the second Champion for her owners and the first homebred.  Her mother, Thyme, won a Terrier group in her career and is a daughter of the late Ch Hazlan Silver Knight of Sarmac.  Pearl Diver is a son of  Sinclair, from a dam with Domaroy bred parents.  Miss is a first Champion for both parents.  Diver and Thyme are linked in their pedigrees to UK/Canadian/American Ch Midshipman of Haweswalton (Top Westie 1984).  He is Diver's great great great grandsire and Thyme's great grandsire.


Champion Lasara Lazy Days

The 4th 2001 Champion becomes the 22nd for her kennel.  Lazy Days won a CC in 2000 and her 2nd and 3rd this year.  Lazy Days becomes the first UK Champion for her parents, who are both grandchildren of the kennel's successful sire, reserve CC winner Lasara Look Sharpe, sire of 4 UK Champion daughters and a dual CC winning son.  Lazy Days' maternal grandsire is Ch Ashgate Sinclair, Latest Addition was his first UK Champion daughter.  

Lazy Days has a reserve CC winning daughter, L Love Me Too and a younger brother who was top puppy in 1999 and himself a reserve CC winner, L Lonely One.  Lazy Days ended the year with 8CCs to her name and the top winning bitch.


Champion Barwest Bee-Having

Bee-Having became the 5th new title holder of the year at the third show in a row where a Champion has been made up.  Bee-Having is the 2nd Champion for his owner and is grandson of the first, Ch Brierlow Bee-Lucky at Barwest.  He is the first Champion for his parents, after taking the reserve CC at Crufts behind City Slicker, who was Top Stud last year with 4 CC winners to his credit.  Bee-Having, like Lazy Days, won a CC in 2000 and 2CCs in 2001 and is a grandchild of CC winner, Foreston Pimpernel.  City Slicker and Bee-Tween Friends are linked in their pedigrees by Ch Olac Moon Pilot (Slicker's grandsire and Friends' great great grandsire) and Ch Lasara Love-All (their great grandsire).


Champion Royalcartier Connoisseur

One day after Bee-Having took his title, another dog took his third CC, after a second CC and BIS at the "of England" Club show the week before.  Connoisseur becomes the first Champion for his owner/breeder and his dam.  He becomes the 17th UK Champion (8 dogs and 9 bitches) for his sire which just extends Sinclair's record to five over his nearest rival, Ch Haweswalton Houdini.  Dame of Dudley is by Patajohn Earl Dudley, a son of an Olac dog.  Like Lazy Days and Bee-Having, Connoisseur tok his first CC in 2000.


Champion Ros Inish by Ashgate

After wins as a puppy and reserve CCs in 2000, Ros Inish took her 3CCs in 2001 becoming Sinclair's 18th UK Champion and the 10th bitch.  She is the first Champion for her owner, breeder and dam, although Rose Isle produced a reserve CC winner, Thomson Boy at Yorsar to Sinclair in an earlier litter.


Champion Bellevue Tiger Lilly

Tiger Lilly won 4CCs in 2001 after several Best Puppy wins in 2000.  She becomes the 4th Champion for her kennel, but the first bitch and the first homebred.  She is by former Top Westie and double Crufts BOB, Ch Bournehaven Birthday Guy and from Bellevue Sweet Charity.


Champion Ariostea Pilgrim to Ashgate

Not since the late seventies has an foreign bred Westie gained a UK title, until 2001 when an Italian youngster took 7CCs, 7BOB and several group placings to become the 2nd top winners of the year.  Pilgrim is bred from two UK bred dogs, CC winner, Italian Ch Wikeland Connor (a son of dual CC winner, Canadian Ch Trewen Dsicovery ex a daughter of UK/Int Ch Ashgate Sallachy) and out of UK/Italian Ch Ashgate Sonsie, from another daughter of Sallachy, the same litter as Sinclair.  Pilgrim's title takes the Ashgate kennel to number three most successful kennel in the UK, along with many others who have Ashgate bred sires or dams.  At the last show of the year Pilgrim's first son, Gilbri Talk Of The Town took his 1st Best Puppy win.


Champion Juadsa Wired For Sound

Taking a third CC after a fairly long campaign, Juadsa Wired For Sound became the first Champion for his owners, breeders and dam.  He becomes the fifth UK Champion for his sire, Lasara Look Sharpe who now become the 2nd most successful non-titlred sire of Champions since Furzefield Piper in the 40s.


Champion Chatterdale Country Manor

After 2CCs in previous years, Country Manor took his title at Scottish Breeds.  He becomes the second Champion for the Wharmbys (White Wine was the first) and the first homebred.  Country Manor becomes the 2nd Champion of the year for City Slicker who came out of retirement to win the dog CC at Crufts after his Top Stud dog award in 2000.  


Champiom Lakamoni Imperial Lady at Burneze

After a 1st CC in 2000, Imperial Lady retired for a litter and came back in 2001 to take her title.  She becomes a third Champion for the Burneze kennel after her sire and Ch Burneze Just Annie Lusion.  Imperial Lady is the 2nd Champion for the Lakamoni kennel.  Her first litter produced two 2001 Best Puppy winners, Proudly Presents and Chatterbox who also took a reserve CC from puppy.


Champion Vallange Lord Of Love

An 11th homebred Champion for the Vallange kennel took his title at Midland Counties, after a 2nd CC at Manchester.  He becomes the 2nd Champion for his sire and the first for his dam.  The fifth dog Champion for the kennel, his pedigree is an example of the kennel's successful linbreeding policy.
